Is trock-or-treat this Saturday in West Memphis and Marion or are they doing it on Halloween night?

[ Editor’s Note: I probably should have tried to squeeze this one in on the Friday e- edition in case there was anyone else out there who didn’t know, but as you probably already figured out, Halloween night is the night for trick- or- treating pretty much everywhere, at least around here. I think the only time it gets moved traditionally is when Oct. 31 falls on a Sunday, and even then, with there being less emphasis on it being “ church day” ( for various reasons I don’t have room for here) that might be on its way out as well. Anyway, fun fact: several years ago, back before I became editor, West Memphis City Councilman Tracy Catt introduced an ordiance to the city council to have the last Saturday in October be designated as the city’s official trick- or- treating night, something that has been done in other commuities in the U. S., but it did not pass in the council chambers]

*** The Victorian (Australia) Upper House has just voted 86-2 on banning the 'Hitler Salute' with penalties of fines of more than $23,000 or 12 months in prison. What is surprising is that two people voted against it whereas all of the main parties acted as one to ban it. Politicians are elected to represent their electorate so who could believe that most people in their region would want to allow this symbol of evil to be legal.

Yes, there are a few misguided individuals, but it is only a very few and their views on a range of matters are generally seen to be abhorrent to the majority.

Democracy should represent all even those that want to destroy it but there must be some limit. [ Editor’s Note: I would love to know the process by which you decided that an Arkansas newspaper needed to know about a law in Australia, unless you meant to send this to the Evening Times in the UK, which happens from time to time, especially on Facebook. In any event, it’s probably very much like those who always vote against removing the Confederate flag from state buildings and that sort of thing… although the Nazis don’t really have a lot of ties to Australia, so maybe it’s more of an “ any kind of censorship is bad” sort of argument. Either way, its hard to imagine when one would “ need” to perform the “ sieg heil” meneuver…]
