Delta Market brings the heat

Summer temps don’t stop bargain hunters

news@theeveningtimes.com

Hot times were had at the Delta Market at ASU-Mid South on Tuesday afternoon. As the local heat index soared to a “feels like” temperature of 104, merchants took turns selling from the shade under pop up canopies and sitting in air conditioned vehicles.

The sweltering heat had some retreat to the Jeremy Jacobs Hospitality Building on the north campus.

The baker was back after a month off. His German chocolate cake balls had melted “into pudding” at the May market.

One thing beat the heat at the July market and that was the bargains. Market traffic appeared to be the same as in previous months as shoppers walked the midway for at least an upand- back. The number of merchants was strong, too.

Merchants hawked BBQ sauce, infused oil dressing and marinade, and dip developed in the kitchen incubator of Delta Cuisine at ASU. A kids lemonade stand made its debut at the market.

Furniture and birdhouses from reclaimed wood attracted a lot of attention.

Aromatic candles got plenty of sniff tests. Loads of crafty home spun trinkets, do-dads and sketches drew the curious browsers on the hot afternoon.

The Delta Market at ASU Mid-South will return on Tuesday, Aug. 15, from 3 to 7 p.m.
