Water settling in for wade fishing on the Little Red

Anglers also seeing success on Greers Ferry, Lake Norfork

Arkansas Wildlife Editor The angler in the photo on the right, Caroline Beavers, is in a boat with guide Greg Seaton on the Little Red River, but Seaton informs us that there are now windows for wading in the Little Red thanks to breaks in the generation from the dam at Greers Fery Lake now that the lake is at normal level. As Caroline holds a beautiful 19-inch brown trout she caught this past week, that water looks nice, calm and inviting behind her.

Seaton says, 'Most wading opportunities are at JFK Park during the afternoon hours. Some wading is available downstream at Winkley Shoal for a short time in the morning. These hours are changing daily, so it’s best to check the next day generation before planning your trip.' He adds, 'The river is clear and drift-fishing is fair to good by staying ahead of the generation or going in behind the generation and fishing falling water.'

Guide Tommy Cauley from Greers Ferry Lake says the weather conditions of the past few weeks seem to have set a lot of the usual spring spawning back about three weeks in his area. He says crappie continue to be caught at will on jigs, minnows and crankbaits all over the lake and rivers at various depths, from super shallow out to 25 feet. Black bass are on beds and hanging
