Pick-up procedures for Herbert Carter Global Community Magnet School have changed since last school year due to construction on the school’s new gymnasium, which could take nine months.

Parents or guardians of car-riders are asked to approach HCGC by driving north on Currie Street and turning left into the front drive of the school, which was previously the exit. Once there, vehicles will be assigned a numbered spot to park as sixth-grade ambassadors assist children to their vehicles.

Parents will be directed to assigned spots along the front of the school until their student enters the vehicle. A school resource officer will stop traffic to allow every car in each group to leave going either way onto Military Road at the same time.

“We are extremely excited about the progress of the new gym,” HCGC Principal Adam O’ Neal said. “This plan is extremely efficient and allows us to safely transport our kids to and from school.”

Parents who are visiting students during school hours will be asked to park in designated spots on the east end of the school just off Currie Street.

With a growing enrollment of nearly 3,900 students, the Marion School District is committed to helping students develop the academic, social, and decision-making skills needed to become productive citizens in the rapidly changing technological world.
