Man shot, killed in West Memphis; 6th homicide of 2022

Police investigating another deadly incident in community

ralphhardin@gmail.com Another day, another fatal shooting in West Memphis, Last Tuesday night, West Memphis police found a man suffering from a gunshot wound on the 1600 block of East Barton just before 10 p.m.

The victim, later identified as Chartarious Jones, was pronounced dead at the scene.

A motive for the shooting has not been released at this time.

The violent incident occurred just three blocks away from where and four days after a 2-year-old child was killed during a drive-by shooting on Friday that also saw the child’s mother wounded.

Despite the close proximity, West Memphis police investigators say they do not believe these cases are connected.

According to reports, the deadly incident marked the sixth homocide this year in the city.

Crime data showed four homicides in West Memphis through then end of June 2021.
