Notes from the Russellville Town Hall

I made it known during my two years on the campaign trail that education was and is my top priority. I want to be known as the education governor. … We want to ensure that every parent has the power to shape their child’s education to meet their child’s needs. I have three children, a fifth-grader, a third-grader and a kindergartener, all going to Arkansas schools, and they all have different educational needs. Education isn’t a one-size-fits-all thing. We have to make it count for every student.

We are not in the business of teaching your kids what to think; we are here to teach them how to think. Educators are not there to teach your children what to think, and neither is the state.

We shouldn’t be teaching things that aren’t fact. We are working to ensure that fact is taught and opinion is not. We are working with textbook companies to ensure that they are the highest quality and meet Arkansas standards.

Every instructor will receive at least a $2,000 raise. We are investing roughly $73,000 per teacher in Arkansas. It’s up to the districts how they use that money. But we are investing in teachers. We are including more funding for teachers in failing districts and those dealing with difficult or disruptive students.

Additonal Town Hall events will be announced on the Governor’s website, www.governor.arkansas. gov.
