The law enforcement community came together recently to pay tribute to one of their fallen brothers.

The skies of Earle were lit up in blue to honor Sgt. Kaylen Jacobs on the evening of Nov.

29, just days after Jacobs’s untimely death.

The Earle police sergeant passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on on Nov. 22 while responding to a call.

To honor Jacobs and his life in law enforcement, the police department and the community held a vigil at Earle High School. As part of the celebration of Jacobs’s life and dedication, police officers from across the region joined in to create a “Sea of Blue,” a procession of lights around the town to offer their own tribute to the fallen officer.

“He would have loved this,” said Jacobs’s sister Keonnie Jacob of the tribute. “He would have been smiling ear to ear. It’s wonderful to have so much support from the community, from everyone’s life he impacted, it’s just nothing but love. I feel comfortable, I feel okay, this is what he would want.”

More than 100 police cars, trucks and SUVs filled the school parking lot as law enforcement officers from as far as 100 miles away gathered to join the Sea of Blue. Jonesboro, Memphis, Tunica, Parkin, Osceole and local agencies were represented.

Keonnie Jacobs said it was great to wave to every police officer during the Sea of Blue. She said being a police officer was the only dream her brother ever had.

“That was his dream since he was a kid. He had fake handcuffs, fake guns. He lived it from the time he graduated till last Wednesday,” she said.

“He loved everything about it. He loved it.”
