West Memphis man gunned down in front of children in broad daylight

West Memphis police are investigating a violent incident that took place on the streets right outside a local school.

Homicide Investigation.

As parents were lined up outside Weaver Elementary School on Wednesday afternoon, shots rang out, leaving one man dead and a community in shocked at yet another gun-related fatality.

From the West Memphis Police Department: “On January, 24 2024 at approximately 2:15 p.m., dispatch received a call regarding a male that had been shot in front of 607 Weaver. Upon officer’s arrival an unresponsive male was located lying next to a vehicle parked in front of 607 Weaver, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds, EMS was notified and made the scene, but the victim succumbed to his injuries.”

After averaging one homicide per month in 2023, the city has had its first murder of 2024. The victim was identified as Bryson Dorsey, 24, of West Memphis.

“Detectives with the Criminal Investigation Division arrived on the scene to begin their preliminary investigation and process the scene,” said City of West Memphis Communications Director Nick Coulter. “This is an ongoing investigation, and we encourage anyone who may have information to please contact the West Memphis Police Department at 870-732-7554.
